I have a broadband connection and yet IE6 is slow as can be. Netscape 7 is
like a typhoon by comaparison when it comes to finding web pages. Are there
any registry tweaks/settings I can make to improve things. I think the
problem is relative to my machine as my second pc has no such problems. I
had a virus recently (now removed) and it appears
to have damaged my system - messing with my networking etc.

First eliminate any spyware.

CAUTION!!!!! Removing some spyware can damage the Winsock stact. Before
you try to remove spyware using any of these programs , download a copy of

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:

I am having similar issues:

Just received new Dell machines running Win XP pro. Have downloaded SP2.

It now takes 45 to 60 seconds for IE to load and see my home page.

(When I do the same operation on a win2K machine on the same network the
page pops right up.)

All browsing activities seem slower (IE when downloaded images in e-mail) Am
on a 3.0 mbps ADSL connection.

Running Mcafee anti vrus and anti-spyware (problem is same with these
disabled) And have run ad-aware and delted all entries. It still takes 45
seconds for my home page to load.

Surfing at one page per minute is excrutiating!!! I did better when I was
on a dial up connection!!!! PLEASE HELP!!!

Any advice or help would be EXTREMELY Appreciated.

THanks!

Thanks Frank, I've done those tweaks and things seem to racing along now. I
will be interested to see if it keeps up over the next few days.

I'm having the exact same problem since Sunday.

Thought it would be a virus or something, visited all MVP pages and scanned
for all I could think of.

I gave up and downloaded Netscape (last time I had used it was 1998).
