I have win2000 with IE6 SP1, CA Firewall, cabel ISP. When I attempt to open
IE6 the browser loads but take a long time to bring up the website. Once the
browser loads I can navigate the net fine. The same happens when trying to
access IE6 from MSN Messenger. MSN Messanger also takes long to connect.
Outlook connects ok, yahoo messenger connects ok. Time Warner Cable says I am
good on there end. Pinged a few sites from DOS CMD with good response.
I have ran CA spyware, antivirus, reload on the CA firewall, problem still
exists. Tryed turning firewall off, uninstalled it, same. Reinstalled IE6,
same slow connect. This happens from my work and home internet connection.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi JRM,

How many toolbar add-ins do you have? What are they?
Quick test.

Start>Settings>Control Panel>Internet Options - Advanced tab - uncheck
"Enable third-party browser helpers"

Restart IE. If it loads quicker then it is one of your add-in toolbars that
is causing the problem or you have too many installed (16 toolbar limit).

Could also possibly be your homepage setting (General tab of Internet
Options). A homepage setting of about:blank loads the fastest.

Regards.

Thanks for responding. Tried the about blank already and I don't use any
add-in's. Did check the "Enable third-party browser helpers" though and it
was unchecked. The funny thing about this is I just started happening, I did
no system changes or load any new software or devices. Also tried running the
microsoft malicious software program, nothing came up.

Thanks for your input it is appreciated!!!

Try changing your home page to a site that you know loads quickly and then
see what happens. Also check your TCP/IP settings. You may need to set an IP
address for your ISP's Primary and Secondary DNS Server. Contact your ISP
for the addresses and
instructions on how to make the changes.

Is this a new problem? If this is a new problem then I see no reason why
your ISP's support can't fix it. Long shot but do you ever turn off the
power to the cable modem?
Try renewing the IP address. See setup guide at:

Also see report about Time Warner at:

Brand New problem of 3 days ago. Booted up and it started. I didn't do any
software/hardware changes, ugrades, ect. My ISP, lol... The level of
expertise and support depends on who you get at the time of the phone call.
The two persons i spoke with had less knowledge then myself. I have a BSN in
info management and though I may not be an expert in any one area of IT, I do
realize how it all comes together and can check the obvious but by know means
do I take your help lightly. I don't always think of the obvious, lol.

So what I guess I am looking for must be taking place a bit deeper. Couldn't
find anything malicious in the REG, but then again by no means an expert.
Nothing is just popping out. I would point fingers at my ISP but this happens
at alternate locations and my other desktop works fine. So it is the
machine....

I hate to do this but I am going to try a registery restore and possibly
than a system restore if there are know other idea's.....

Thanks Again!!!!

I agree but before you take action try this, if you haven't already: Find
Files or Folders, Date, Find All Files (eithier modified or created in
between the dates you experienced the problem and maybe a little before
too). Long shot for sure.

More long shots to try: In Internet Options remove your ISP's connection and
remove all protocols in Windows Networking. Then reinstall both. They may be
corrupt.

Correction: I should have said remove Windows Networking with Add/Remove
Programs, Windows Setup, Communications, choose Details then select the
networking that applies to your cable modem/adapter card and clear the check
mark to remove. Reboot when asked.
