Using XP-SP1

Internet Explorer 6 will not boot up after clicking in the desktop
icon. It will sometimes boot up on the second try, but rarely.

In all failure incidences, IE does not appear in the Windows Task Bar
Applications BUT all attempts do appear in Processes! Usually, after
two unsuccessful attempts to boot up, I will delete one IE in
Processes and it will then load the remaining IE process spontaneously
and show in Applications. Other times, will require two or three more
attempts.

I have tried the usual virus and malware runs of the entire system and
"sfc/scannow." None help.

i would certainly be glad to forget about IE and use another browser,
but my favorite MMPO requires IE to start.

Can anyone help?

Why isn't SP2 and all post-SP2 updates installed?

Is an anti-virus application installed and are its definitions fully
up-to-date?

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post

You may have to use another browser (e.g, Firefox) or reboot into Safe Mode
with Networking to reach the above pages and to download the needed tools.

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.
