Help, I somehow changed my ie6 after an update from msft support that causes
it not to allow me to open it without being connected to the internet. I get
an error that continues to blink down in the status bar: finding site:
badurl. I used to get error page with site not found. I want this message
so I can open a html file from my localhost. This error blinks for about 40
or 50 seconds and then closes ie.
Thank you,

msft support, download and updates, windows updates. Once I started having
this problem, I downloaded file ie6setup.exe and forcing an update. This
was also around the time I was working with ASP.NET and developing popup
screens. I had to change a few options to allow popups. I don't see what
that have to do with it but I want to pass that alone.
Thanks,

I also have this problem on my son's Windows 2000NT laptop. It arose as
follows. He responded to an ofer of Spyware removal which resulted in a lot
of unwanted ads and tool bars from Adware.Bookedspace. In the process of
attempting tro remove this annoyance, doing a number of things including
reloading IE6, the flickering badurl started. The flickering badurl is
grandstreetinteractive.com. I have now removed all traces of
Adware.Bookedspace using a Symantek procedure. I have backed out SP4 so that
I can see IE6 removal. I then removed IE6 but another copy still remains
under Programs. I don't know what else to do but install XP just to get rid
of NT. The convoluted interrelationship between NT SPs and IE upgrades seems
to be unsolvable. Help.

You are right, I forgot,I did install that spyware and removed it. I going to
see if I can contact them and see if they can tell me how to remove any of
their lingering files.

Logger,
The url for the symantec procedure to remove adware.bookedspace, and perhaps
others, is www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/adware.bookedspace.html

There are numerous warnings about fooling with the registry and tampering
with the guts of Windows. I always "boldly go" where no rational person "has
ever gone before" and risk it all with the full knowledge that I can trash
the drive and start over, bad as it sounds. Good luck.

Logger,
I forgot to mention that the Symantec procedure gets rid of
Adware.Bookedspace but it does not solve the problem we both have with the
flickering url when launching IE. I hope someone much wiser than I can
advise. Otherwise, I am ready to upgrade to XP and trash NT just to get rid
of IE and start over. The scary part of that idea is that the IE files that
may be causing the problem may not be overwritten in the XP installation.

I had the exact bad url message on IE yesterday,
grandstreetinteractive.com - did it work removing the

Unfortunately, no. I have checked with other sites on this subject and it appears that most spyware removers will catch only the most straightforward spyware. While I did go through the Symantec procedure for removal of
Adware.Bookedspace I believe it was something that happened in the removal
process or other effort that generated the flickering grandstreet url. The
reaon is that while Adware.Bookedspace was installed the problem was not the
flickering badurl. It was annoying ads and toolbars. The new badurl came
after some file deletions.

Having said all that, the news on the forums is that the URL PROCESS IS
BEING HIJACKED AND NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED. To that end I am proceeding to
www.aaw6.notlong.com based on advice from Microsoft to another person on
this forum. This advice cost him $35.
