IE6 and XP2

I have the "encountered problems must close" message when I try to use the
BACK button on various websites.
I saw somewhere that re-loading IE6 would solve the problem but when I try I
receive the message "there is a later version of IE6 installed, cannot
continue".
I had hoped that SP2 would cure the problem but it doesn't.
I gather from the details in the message that iexplore.exe is involved.
Can anyone verify this and provide the solution?
I have has this problem for some time and tried various forums but so far
have had no success. I am amazed that Microsoft have n't picked the problem
up or have they and even they can't provide the answer.

A point to finish on, SP2 now "pops up" an information bar to tell you that
it has stopped a popup. A bit ironic that! To confound me completely it even
stops the popups(To send this new thread) on the Microsoft site.
Soft or what?

I am also encountering the "script errors" message on web pages since I
installed SP2.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

We need more information to be able to help you. Click on the details button
(or details link) when your system crshes and provide:

xxx caused an xxx in xxx at xxx:xxxx

or if you are using a later operating system, provide information about the
files (modules) involved in the crash.

If you are using the Error Reporting Tool, disable it so you can access the
error message in a more understandable form. Informationon how to disable
the Error Reporting Tool is here:

I have discovered that the accompat.txt files are not being stored on my
computer. The last date for one is 28.06.04.
1st error message after "IE has encountered prob........"

This is too long to printout longhand, is there a way of saving/copying it?

The following files will be included in this error report.
C:\Docume~1\Perrin\Locals~1\Temp\1101\appcompat.txt

Is this sent automatically because I am not asked to send it?

I've just had a new popup, as I closed the previous error report(this has
only happened since installing SP2)

Dr Watson postmortem debugger has encountered a problem and needs to close.

C:\docume~1\perrin\locals~1\temp\wer58cc.dir00\appcompat.txt

Again there is no sign of these files on my computer.

I will still send this info incase it helps anyone but I finally managed to
download BHODEMON, ran it, removed two "malignant" BHO's and cannot repeat
the "must close etc." message.
I thought that I was well protected with Spybot and Adware but it just shows.

Hi Sandi,

Thanks for the reply.
Did you see my reply dated 30.08.04 timed 11.02 am?
I have experienced no more problems since running BHODEMON.
It picked up incfin~1.dll straight away.
I've downloaded the URL you suggested so am now prepared for future problems
in this area.
Thanks for all your input,

Hi Sandy,
Whilst I am not having the "IE close" problems I am a little concerned that
I disable the Malware using BHODEMON and then a few days later the boxes are
checked again.
Does this mean that they are re-infecting, I am running Norton & Zone Alarm
plus the SP2 protection?
I did try to remove the progs. via the "DOS" route but the instructions were
not recognised.

Hi Leoperrins,

Yes it is quite likely that the software is reenabling itself; does BHODemon
identify the BHO as a specific software? If so, we may be able to track down
precise removal instructions.

Leon,

You need to work through all the advice at the troubleshooting advice
already provided; you've got some nasty stuff on your system.

Hi Sandi,

The two items that BHDemon was investigating concerned "My Websearch".
BHD came back with the report that they were ADWARE and the the details of
these two items seem pretty nasty, so I have disabled them.( I believe these
originate from the "Smileys" software)
It was convenient to have the Mywebsearch bar but I didn't fancy their
activities.
The folder containing the files for these two items is still on the
computer,even though they don't run.
Should I disable it via the "Add/Remove" programs" route?
The same applies to the previous nasties.
I run Spybot and Adware regularly and they give a clean bill of health.
I also use RegSupreme which tidies the registry up.
I look forward to your advice,

You need to give your computer a good cleanout:
