Hello, Windows update is offering me to download ie 7. I am pretty certain
that it contains bugs and I would like to know if and how could I have
both versions in my PC, so if one ain't working I could close it and open
the other one?

thanks

Daniel

You cannot run multiple versions of IE in one Windows partition.

IE7 is a recommended but optional update; you can choose not to install it.
If you do install it, uninstalling it later will return you to IE6.

Required reading IMHO before installing IE7:

PS: I would /not/ install IE7 via Windows Update myself. Do so manually
instead for best results.

I would prefer also installing it manually. Would you have the web address?

Also, I deduct that I could install ie7 on a different partition or drive,
this is fine with me. Would it cause any problem doing so? How about the
shared files and those copied in System or System32 directory?

Thank you
Daniel

My friend, there are bugs in every major piece of software - including
the programs you're running right now. If you can't live with that, you
may as well put your computer back in the box.

That said, there's a wisdom in not installing new software as soon as it
comes out. No software creator can anticipate every configuration on
which their product will be installed, or every way that people will use
and misuse the product. There will undoubtedly be things that need
fixing. New software is no different from a new model of car or camera
or...you get the idea. That's why I hold back before trying a new
program...let someone else be the guinea pig.

It makes absolutely no difference whether you install manually or from
Windows Update. None. Nada. Zilch. But if you insist on installing it
manually, I'll bet you can find it on Microsoft's website.

Internet Explorer is not a separate program - it's part of the Windows
operating system, and installs itself in the system partition and
nowhere else.

So if you want to have two different versions of Internet Explorer,
you'll need two separate installations of Windows XP.
