Hi,

I use the IE5.5 and do not want to upgrade to 6.0.
The problem: There are a lot of security patches, which you can only install
if you have the IE5.5SP2, an just this pack is not available any more on
microsoft`s homepage, because they want you to use the 6.0.

Where can I get the old 5.5SP2, so that I have safety again.
Of course I use Norton, but I feel I must do the upgrades.

Thanks a lot

You can get the full install of IE 5.5 sp2 on a CD from here for
$3.00:
http://on-disk.com/ie55sp2.html

It's also available to download from evolt.org but that installer
didn't work for me and several others I've seen post in the groups.

I would suggest installing it then updating to 6.0 if you wish.
I haven't updated because 5.5 works perfectly for me and 6.0 is a
little unstable at times.

Good Luck,
Ed

Have you tried Mozilla Firefox? It's faster, more secure, and more
standards compliant than IE. It's now my default browser :) Oh, and it
also blocks pop-ups, and advertising banners without you having to buy
extra software to do it.

Free download here.

Just to second Mozilla.

At work we are standardized on IE and I remember the 5.5 to 6.0 transition
and ALL of the security patch updates (a never ending M$ story). At home, I
use Mozilla and it is much more secure than IE. It is also a superior
browser.
