I have been told there is a program being put on e.g.
WinXP machines that causes an MANY advertising windows to
open up e.g. 1, then 10, then on and on within minutes,
uncontrollably. When these files are found by McAfee,
McAfee's software cannot delete them; only quarantine
them. If you try to delete the files, it causes even more
advertising IE browser windows to be opened - similar to
a 'take-that for trying to delete me'. These windows popup
even when say, working on Microsoft Word, and no IE
browser windows are not opened. These computers are on a
college network therefore, PCs are attached to internet
all of the time.
My guess is, that somehow an ActiveX control was sent to
these PCs like an 'unwanted virus'.
Is there a way to find the 'root' program causing this vs.
just getting some kind of program to delete the files as
they are created?
Thanks
