IE Won't Work ... BUTT

Hi,

It's the strangest thing. If I open IE by pressing on the button, it won't
work, BUT, if I open a folder and then type in an address it will work ...
any ideas? Also - no matter how I open it, if I'm on a website and I click
on a link whihc should open a new window that dones't work too.

When I say it doesn't work, I mean that it says "Page cannot be displayed"

Any ideas???

I have the same problem, I can't launch IE 6 from any of the program
locations, icon on desktop, quick launch, etc, but if I go to my computer
and type in a url in the address box, ie opens and goes to page. I have
listed this problem on this forum about a month ago, and no one has been
able to give me any help. I tried uninstalling IE and reinstalling, no luck.
I run Win2kpro with all sp and IE 6 sp1 with q824145, q330994 and q832894.

Maybe we can get some help this time.

Once I am using IE by opening it through "My Computer" let me add, that when
I try to "open link in another window" nothing happens, just sits there I
can cut and paste a url but can't click on it in any way.
This is real frustrating, I have tried an alternative browser, but it seems
awful slow in loading and redisplaying any web pages.

Same here since yesterday. W2k and supposed to have IE6 with all the patches
and securityrepairs..... BUT when started in my computer or explorer (typed
in an url) and looking into help for versionnumber it states
5.00.2920.00001C. Links do not work.

Looking into the logs of W2000 I found this:

I checked BTW the registry for this string (0002F01 etc) according to tips
from MS but that seems to be ok.

I'm stunned.

Did you check for spyware?

I had a similar problem with my homepage being redirected. Eventually, IE stopped working all together. I finally got it fixed using HijackThis. It checks for spyware and allows you to fix it. If you run it, don't fix anything until you post the log it generates to a forum where someone can look it over and identify bad vs good entries. I got help on it at www. annoyances.org in the XP forum. http://www.mjc1.com/mirror/hjt/ You can also check http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html for other programs to help with spyware. See their offical download list of programs
