My Internet Explorer will not open. I get a C++ time out notice in a series
of notes everytime I attempt to open IE.

Help.

Hi Hal :-)

The version of Windows and IE (Sp1 or SP2) you are using, and the exact
wording of the error messages you are getting would help us a great deal,
but, in the mean time, I'll take a guess. You might try the following and
see if it helps:

You may be having a conflict with msvcrt.dll (or one of its variants),
perhaps maybe mfc.dll

msvcrt.dll = Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime library
mfc.dll = Microsoft Foundation Classes

You can try replacing or install the runtime files.
Download the msvcrtXX.dll files here:

Run Time Errors

Courtesy of Henri Leboeuf:

First go to IE | Tools | Internet Options | Advanced...scroll down and
check the box next to "Disable script debugging" and uncheck "Display a
notification about every script error."

or ...............

Common script errors messages can be eliminated by Clicking:
1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options. 3. In the Internet Options
dialog box, click Advanced.
4. Click to select the Disable script debugging check box.
5. Click to clear the Display a notification about every script error check
box.
6. Click OK.

Get this if still no joy:
Microsoft's Scripting download
Get the latest. Two download versions are available for Windows Script 5.6.
The first version requires Windows 2000, XP; the second version requires
Microsoft Windows 98, Millenium Edition (Me), or NT 4.0.
Choose the download appropriate for your operating system.

If these steps do not resolve your problem, or you need help with the above,
please post back to this thread with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

Hi Jan,
I am having the same probem with my IE. I get a Run Time error from the
Microdoft Visual Basic C++ Library that says "The Application has requested
to terminate it in an unusal way" After that IE shuts down automatically. I
have run widows script 5.6 and have also tried to replace the tuntime files
MSVCRT40.dll, but the it didn't get fixed. Can you help please. Thanks

Are you also getting the same run time error from Microsoft Visual Basic C++
Libarary saying "This application has requested the run time to terminate in
an unsual way?" I have run ad-ware and sptware programs and antivirus
programs and installed windows script 5.6 and MCVCRT40.dii but nothing the
problem is still there. Any luck? Help please....

Hi CardassianExpansion :-)

Here are a few other things you might try:

How to disable script and runtime errors
http://www.sureshotsoftware.com/articles/scripterrors.html

You can get the Sun Java J2SE RunTimes or SDK here:
http://java.sun.com/downloads/index.html
(all versions - select using the dropdown) or here:
http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_automatic.jsp
Sun also offers an automatic download and install of the 1.4 Java plug-in
here:
http://java.sun.com/getjava/download.html
Or.the latest version is here:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp

also..if applicable:

Zone Alarm Pro can block access to Internet

http://www.neowin.net/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t230331.html

On the gateway machine, do the following.
Click start -> run, type cmd and click ok.
Type ipconfig /all and press enter.
Find the connection you are using, and make note of all the DNS servers.
Type exit and press enter.

Double-click the ZA icon down by the clock.
Click firewall -> main, and click the advanced button.
Put the check in "this computer is an ICS/NAT gateway", and click ok.
Click firewall -> zones.

Add each DNS server to the trusted zone. To do this, do the following.
Click the add button, and then click IP address.
Click trusted, put in the IP address, enter a description, and click ok.
When finished adding all addresses, click the apply button.

Next, click program control -> programs. Locate Generic Host Processing.
Under the server column, for trusted, change that to a check.
Don't change server internet to a check, just server trusted.

If you have ZoneAlarm on the other computers, do the following.
Click the ZA icon down by the clock.
Click firewall -> main, and click the advanced button.
Put the check in "this computer is a client of an ICS/NAT gateway", and
click ok.

Please note that this will likely NOT work if you are using the free version
of ZoneAlarm. Support for ICS is one of the perks of going to the Pro/pay
version according to their web site. Older versions I believe will do it for
the freeware versions. If that's your situation I'd Google it and try to
find an older version somewhere.

please post back to this thread with the details and any error messages.
