On a different computer from this one, when trying to connect to the internet
with AT&T, we got the message "Page cannot be displayed". Since the dial-up
is on the same line as my phone I could tell it actually was connected(crazy
phone sounds). I just couldn't browse at all.
I uninstalled the AT&T software and tried reinstalling it. Still get
connected but the Internet Explorer browser won't launch. Also, when clicking
Start/Programs, instead of AT&T Connection Services it says "Sign up for AT&T
Worldnet". I have the AT&T disc in place and try to go through all the steps
to install it but somehow it seems like it doesn't know it is there. HELP!
I don't know if the problem is hardware (Gateway - brand new replacement for
a dud) or software- AT&T or Internet Explorer). The AT&T setup disc worked
fine on our other computers and , up til now, had successfully loaded on the
Gateway too.

Hi Betty. AT&T have an excellent customer service support. In the first
instance you should perhaps contact them for advice, but that aside it
sounds like there is a problem with your connection setting for Internet
Explorer.

You can view your settings from the Tools>Internet Options menu and then
select the Connections tab.

If you can't start internet explorer you can also go to your control panel
(Start>Settings>Control Panel) and either select the Internet Options or the
Connections control applet.

I don't use AT&T but I used to do some work for a Help desk here in
Australia, and from memory I think they use a connection script with their
sign-on, so it is important that you contact them to ensure that your
connection settings are as per their requirements.

Hi,
To test the connection, try this (assuming that the OS is Windows XP)
Go to Start> Run, Type in cmd and click OK. In the command window you'll
see the line
C:\Documents and Settings\username>
Type in
ping www.yahoo.com so that the original line becomes
C:\Documents and Settings\username>ping www.yahoo.com
Then hit Enter.
If you get a reply, you're connected to the internet.
The next step would be to go to Start> Run and type in
netsh Winsock reset click OK.
You may have to be logged in as an administrator to run that commend.
Try browsing with IE.

Try that and report the results.

Hope this helps,
Don
