IE won't display text files

When I click on a link to a text file, IE 6 pops up a box
asking if I want to save or open it. Up until just a few
days ago, it would just open the file in the current
browser window. I made no change manually, and have
removed any recently installed software, and can't seem to
find any related setting in the Tools menu.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Check your settings for .txt file type.

You set this for each file type, e.g. for .zip
Explorer-View-Folder Options-File Types
Find the .zip association (may be WinZip File)
Edit, (or click Advanced on ME or XP) and check the "Confirm open
after download" box

The path to Folder Options may vary according to your operating
system. It may be:
Explorer-View-Folder Options
Explorer-Tools-Folder Options
Start-Settings-Folder Options
Start-Settings-Control Panel-Folder options.
