IE won't close when multiple IE's are open

This just started happening a few weeks ago, and I don't know what I did to
cause it.

When I have more than 1 IE open, and I go to close one, it won't close for
about 45 seconds and all IE's are greyed out and locked up during that time.
This is pretty weird. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it, or should
just keep using Netscape?

I have version 6.0.2600.xpclnt_qfe.010827-1803

First eliminate any spyware.
What You Should Know About Spyware

CAUTION!!!!! Removing some spyware can damage the Winsock stack and you may
not be able to connect to the Internet. Before you try to remove spyware,
download a copy of LSP-Fix - a free program to repair damaged Winsock 2
stacks AFTER you remove the software (all Windows versions)

I'm a systems administrator - not from Microsoft - I don't have the tunnel
vision Microsoft has when it comes to fixing their problems. I see this as
something different, as I am used to troubleshooting problems, not developing
them. I also know about computer security and, to the extent I can, I don't
allow my computer to pick up viruses, etc.

Are you running *MICOROSOFT'S DESKBAR?* I installed it about three weeks ago
and have recently turned it off, since I started having the same lockups.
Even after turning it off, I am still having this problem. I have responded
to their surveys at least 10 times with what I believe the problem to be, but
I haven't seen any other posts on it.

I, too, keep getting MS's answer to this, but it's worthless - "Oh, get rid
of ads and toolbar add-ons and check your anti-virus software and download
SP2, etc."

I am running an antivirus, firewall, MICROSOFT's adware remover, with NO
other add-ons, BUT the deskbar. Just before adding the deskbar, I fully
reformatted and reloaded my computer.

Dear Microsoft - This is NOT the "fix", but the latest fad in "what's wrong
with my compter?" answers. Please address the deskbar and IE problem from a
new direction. It it's not the deskbar, then it's something with IE that's
been added lately.

Very basically, I am running XP Home Ed SP2, IE 6 w/SP2. I only run one
antivirus, one firewall, and one adware program at a time (Symantec and MS,
respectively).

Amen Brother!

So many things wrong. No one really interested in helping you fix them (from
Microsoft). What about me not being able to load SP1 due to no entry point. I
have literally spent days on this, and no one seems interested in helping.

I find it interesting haidozo1, that I too am running those programs. Could
this be a clue to our dilema? I do not have deskbar. I guess I will keep
recommending that people use Netscape. No problems compared to IE.

In these days of rapidly emerging and morphing spyware/malware, just running
one such tool is not enough sometimes. Even then, something out in the wild
may not be in any 'regular' tools database, and you'll need more powerful
stuff like HiJackThis. I've had no problems running MSAS, Spybot and
AdAware. And, don't forget that MSAS is still in *beta* - another reason to
not rely on it exclusively (but it still does a pretty darn good job!)
