I was setting up a relative's computer recently and none
of the IE windows would close - not if you clicked on the
X in the upper right corner, nor if you chose File/Close.
The browsers would open and you could shrink them but
none would close, even after machine was rebooted.

Any ideas?

There's a good possibility that this is being caused by a third-party
program (adware, spyware, parasite)

BHODemon 1.0 from http://www.definitivesolutions.com/bhodemon.htm is a good
program to start with.

Then download, install, *update* and run these two programs:
Ad-aware from http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/
Spybot from http://security.kolla.de/

Search for common parasites at http://www.doxdesk.com/parasite/

Less likely, but it could be caused by a legitimate program running in the
background such as anti-virus. Disable background applications one at a time
to see if you can find the culprit.

Don
