IE will not load for me - 2 days now. Have tried Winsock patch and TCP/IP
reset.

I am using Ad Aware. MSN works fine, which is where I am posting from, so
somebody / something did something to IE.

I use XP and IE 6.

All help appreciated.

Hi,
From Control Panel> Internet Options> Advanced> uncheck "Enable third party
browser extensions."

If this allows IE to open, another program is causing the problem.

Work through the solutions (CWShredder, Ad-aware, Spybot) at
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm Also note the security tips on that
page.

Additional information at:

More security tips at http://www.aumha.org/a/parasite.htm

If not caused by malware, consider disabling (for diagnostic purposes)
legitimate programs running in the background which might be interacting
with IE- security, antivirus, ad-blockers, toolbars & other add-ons, etc.
You may have to uninstall then reinstall, or not reinstall, a program.

A repair/reinstall of IE may help, if malware isn't the cause. Go to
http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/IEFAQ.htm >>> Tip #12.

Hope this helps,
Don

Ad-Aware doesn't catch everything.
See
Dealing with Unwanted Malware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/cwshredder.zip
**Post your HijackThis log to
http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ or the Spyware forum at
http://forum.aumha.org/ for expert analysis, not here.**
Alternative download pages for Ad-Aware, Spybot, HijackThis and CWShredder
may be found on this page:
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm.

If nothing there helps, please post back to this thread.

Phil,
So, From Control Panel> Internet Options> Advanced> uncheck "Enable third
party
browser extensions" made no difference?

Try disabling legitimate programs running in the background which might be
interacting
with IE- security, antivirus, ad-blockers, toolbars & other add-ons, etc.
You may have to uninstall then reinstall, or not reinstall, a program.

Try a repair/reinstall Go to http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/IEFAQ.htm Tip #12

Hope this helps,
Don
