IE VERSION CONFLICT

This is really confusing! I installed IE6 SP1 a while
ago, but I still had file version 5.0 when I checked the
Internet Explorer directory on drive C. But, when I
looked in the registry, the version was 6.0 (for XP
Home), which was exactly what I needed. Don't ask me how
I got 5.0 with my XP machine, that's a long story...

Anyway, why's the file version 5.0, NOT 6.0?

Regards,

Kenneth Clive.

Kenneth,

Where exactly did you check and which folder shows it's 5.0 version?

Dear Ramesh,

Thanks for replying to my 'crisis'! Well, I checked
the "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer" directory for
the browser (iexplore.exe) file version. The version
should be 6.0, but it is 5.0, even though I ran the IE6
installation.

Regards,

Kenneth Clive.

Two possibilities I can think of.

* You have a dual-boot setup and have 9x OS installed in C: [XP in D: or somewhere]
* iexplore.exe is modified by older version

If latter, you could try downloading repaiting Internet Explorer
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318378
[Set the registry key "IsInstalled" to 0]

Or, download complete package using this version if IE, delete iexplore.exe and reinstall IE6

How to download the complete installation package of IE?
