Vincent

my PC was recently infected with spyware and the
Internet Explorer view > toolbars menu is greyed out,
I can't access any of the toolbars! Any idea on how
I can get these back? Thanks in advance for any
assistance.

What version of windows and what service pack level, and what version of IE.

For IE6, on XP SP2, the advice to reinstall IE is to reinstall Service Pack
2--so if that fits, that's what I'd recommend.

If you already have SP2 in place, WU won't offer it, so you need to grab the
network admin install version from:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...be-3b8e-4f30-8245-9e368d3cdb5a&displaylang=en

It is large--you'll need broadband or considerable patience.

If you aren't on xpsp2, let me know the true particulars, and I'll see what
the advice is for your platform.

Hello Bill thank you for your reply, I appreciate it.

I have IE6, Windows Media Center Edition with SP2
installed.

The problem with the greyed out toolbars is just
with Internet Explorer -from the View -Toolbars
menu. Can't access any of them as the entire
section is 'greyed out'..

Is there a registry tweak workaround of some sort
perhaps rather than reinstall SP2? Norton Antivirus
found 'hclean32' trojan on my system. Apparantly
when this mess did it thing it also removed the
ability to change my Internet Explorer toolbars
via the View > Toolbars menu.

Vincent

Try here:

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Search on greyed out--theres a tweak for this--lets try that--second hit.

You should probably turn of Microsoft Antispyware before running the
tweak--not sure whether it is a reg file or a script, but we don't want the
script file checkpoint agent interfering.

help me I sincerely appreciate your efforts.

Terrific. Kelly's site is a real wealth of useful fixes for issues such as
the one you ran into.
