The IE 6 sp1 title bar only shows first character of any
URL. It makes it difficult to identify open windows on
Task bar.

I couldn't find any references on MSKB and the online
assisted support page said our product ID was invalid
(after a very convoluted pathway which included
registering for Passport)!!

Thanks for any help with this.

A Single Letter May Be Displayed in the Title Bar When you run Windows
Explorer or start Internet Explorer, the text in the
title bar may be displayed as a single letter (for example, an "M" or an
"E").

Tikken,
The hint in the article Ramesh pointed to is:

"This problem can also occur with [insert program name], loading in the Run
keys in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and HKEY_CURRENT_USER hives.

I uninstalled some programs called "Pop uo Defender" and "Pop Up Manager" and "Pop Up Window Killer" and it corrected my problem. Enen though none of them were active, they evidently still affected the IE title Bar.

If it were to happen to me I would reinstall 1, reboot. If no change
reinstall 2, reboot. Then 3. I'll bet you will not see the problem happening
again.
