No matter what URL I put into IE6 it takes me to the same page (FWIW it's
worth, this is the page: http://www.jwacs.wa.edu.au/ ) although the address
in the URL bar shows the address I want to go to.

The URL above is unfamiliar to me, although it is possible that I have been
there at some point while searching for something else.

I can access the web correctly through Netscape, and OE is working OK.

Can anyone suggest a solution?

reinstall Internet Explorer, remember to back up emails just in case as
installing IE will also re-install OE.

you can get the download from Microsoft.com

It is known as Scumware. 1, 2, 3 and 4 are good. Visit these sites. Download
and
install, run one or all. They are all good, FREE utilities. The first site
gives some
recommendations.

I tried Spybot but it did not help, and Hijack This refused to install, so I
decided to reinstall IE.

I wasted more than half an hour searching the Microsoft website for the
current version of Internet Explorer. I kept ignoring "Internet Explorer
Service Pack 1" because, to me, that sounded like a patch or add-on and I
wanted the program itself. Microsoft obviously assume that everybody just
*knows* that IE6SP1 is actually Internet Explorer. I was at screaming stage
before I finally stumbled across a different page which explained what I was
looking for.

The reinstall worked and even preserved my Favorites, Address Book and OE
folders.

A bonus from the exercise is that I rediscovered Netscape, which, at Version
7, is greatly improved on its older versions, and seems to do many things
better than IE, so I might keep using it for a while.

vicdam;
