IE stops responding when accessing MS home page?

Something in my system does not like the MS home page, and some of the
related help pages. This is especially maddening because when you need help
with something, you can't get help (somehow the AFLAC duck is popping into my
head here). I am using IE 6 with Windows XP. I think IE is actually on SP2
but I have not installed SP2 for Windows. I can select the MS home page
either from the drop down or by typing it in and it will come up, but the
very second (and I mean just move the cursor) I touch the page - any element,
IE freezes up. I can back into some of the help pages (like I did here) by
starting on a different subpage and navigating backward to a point where I
can find help. But I just did this tonight and when I tried to click on
"Sandi's" help page, I got locked up again. I have up to date virus
protection (Norton). I emptied my temporary web files. No help. If I try to
send the report, as invited by Microsoft, that too freezes up. I do not have
this problem with any other pages or even with any other aspects of MS pages,
but almost anything related to help and definitely the microsoft.com home
page, forget it. Freeze city. Any suggestions would be welcomed. It kind
of seems like there is a fairly common problem here. Perhaps MS has posted a
solution, but I can't get there!!!
