My IE 6 (XP Home, SP2) sttoped laoding properly after I used X-Cleaner and
removed two items (Better Internet and HuntBar). I have been unable to get
clear direction on what is necessary to restore IE to normal operation. I
created a new shortcut. but IE opens only after I right-click "run as" and
choose "current user."
I dont't have an application disk for IE; it was already on PC at purchase.

I'm not familiar with X-Cleaner.
First eliminate any scumware.
CAUTION!!!!! Before you try to remove spyware using any of these programs ,
download a copy of LSPFIX from any of the following sites:
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
(if your OS is Win2k or XP) The process of removing certain malware may kill
your internet connection. If this should occur, this program, LSPFIX, will
enable you to regain your connection.

See

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:

Thanks Jan; your references did help!

I had previously been point to the MS KB318378 document; but hoped for a
simplier process that reinstalling XP SP2.

Reinstalling XP SP2 fixed the problem.

Thanks Frank; I reinstalled XP SP2 according to the MS KB318378
document--Iwas hoping for a simplier method, but this took care of the
problem.

Also, the X-Cleaner spyware scanner was referred to me by PC-Cillin Tech
Support.

Thanks for the other referrenced; I will keep them for my own KB.
