you didn't actually say if the page ever displayed in the
end, if it just stops loading and the page does not
display,
then here is a possible solution:

open ie 6.0/5 or whatever and go tools, then go, internet
options..., click the connections tab, then check in the
lan section, delete all the proxy settings stuff, if there
is no proxy settings then check the settings section of
the content tab, delete anything connected to proxys.

Hope it works,
also if it doesn't work then it is not my fault,
also you may wish to take down the values and places
of the data that you delete in case you wish to type
it back in.

it is when I click a link in a webpage or my favourite,
the browser often seemed not to respond but, after several
(about 30 seconds), it start to load the content of the
web page. Sometimes, when IE are in the process of loading
webpage, it stops and I click "refresh", but it does not
respond and I have to wait for 20- 30 seconds, it starts
to continue loading the complete page.

P.S. Recently I have donwload the MSN messenger, and found
that it usually freezes when I log on to with one of the
ID after logging out with another ID. And IE also freezes
but for a few seconds, both re-activate again.

Please help
