IE Still Running After I Close It

I recently had a problem with IE 6 crashing which was successfully resolved.
It seems that the Naomi web filter I was using suddenly didn't like IE
anymore so I uninstalled the filter which solved the problem.

Now a new problem has surfaced since installing the new Windows Live
Toolbar. When I close IE after surfing the window will close but it continues
to run in the background. I have to use the Task Manager to kill it. Has
anyone else experienced this? Is this a known issue since the toolbar is
beta? Other than that I love it. I actually got rid of the Google toolbar in
favour of this one.

Hi Cpt,

Has the toolbar got tabbed browsing? The MSN and Yahoo tabbed versions are
plagued by this problem. I found the download page and see that there is no
mention of tabbed browsing, but it has a popup blocker.. It may well be that
it is still a bit buggy, but also check that you have not installed other
toolbars with popup blocking enabled. To test, either turn off
popup-blocking or disable the toolbar and see if the problem persists.

Opps.. I see it does have tabbed browsing.... in that case also test without
the tabbed browsing enabled. (each tab actually is a separate IE process).

Also in Task Manager if you right click on a task you have options to bring
the window to the front or to maximise it. I have used this to force a
hidden tab to display. Seems to be a problem with persisting the toolbar as
new tabs are created and the toolbar is copied.

Regards.

Hi Rob,

The Windows Live Toolbar is the only one I have installed and yes it has
tabbed browsing. That's one of the things I like about it. I'll try your
suggestion about disabling this feature to see if it makes a difference and
post the result here.

Hi Rob,

Okay this is what I found after playing around. Disabling tabbed browsing
had no effect but disabling the toolbar's popup blocker did. Once the popup
blocker was disabled IE closed properly. Perhaps this info can be of use to
others who may be experiencing this problem.

By the way, I couldn't maximize IE in the Task Manager as you suggested for
it wasn't listed in the Applications tab, just the Processes tab where
maximizing isn't an option.

Thanks for the help Rob.

Thanks Canuck for the informative post. Beta 2 will be betta for your
feedback.
Regards.
