I finally got SP3 but it didn't correct my problem. Internet Explorer still
turns off. So far, 3 times and it's not 9AM yet. When I send in an error
report it tells me that the solution isn't possible now and recommends more
updates, including SP1. Isn't that crazy?

Never, never, never upgrade to a higher service pack level on an
unstable system!!!!

Did you really upgrade to SP3? To check:

Start | Run... | (type) winver | OK

At some point, you should uninstall it, using Add or Remove Programs.

You really need to be certain that you have no malware on your system.
If I were you, I would seek expert guided help, which would involve
using HijackThis and posting the log in one of the forums below:

The installation of SP3 was done to try to stabilize my IE.
I checked and it was indeed installed. My problem was not solvable at this
time according to the error report. I don't want to uninstall SP3. It was
hard to get and isn't doing any harm as far as I can see.

Once SP3 is installed, you will not be able to un-install IE7 as part
of the repair process. It has been recommended to uninstall IE7
before installing SP3. The newer XP install CDs, with integrated SP3
does not have IE7 included.

One possible fix:

1) Uninstall SP3
2) Uninstall IE7

3) Install SP3
4) Install IE7

5) Process all Widows Updates

That was a mistake. Upgrading to a newer service pack will never
stabilize application problems.

Your call. There is a proper protocol for installing SP3, which you
didn't follow. Granted, at the time, you didn't know this. But you know
it now. If you decide to do this the right way, post back and we can
guide you in the upgrade.

You should only upgrade to SP3 if you are certain there is no malware on
your system. From what I can tell, you never ruled this out.

It is better to upgrade from IE6 to IE7 *before* upgrading to SP3.
Sometimes what needs to be done to solve IE problems is to downgrade IE
from IE7 to IE6. But this cannot be done if you are running SP3!

Did you try running IE7 in no add-ons mode by any chance?
