IE "SITE ICONS" KEEP REVERTING to GENERIC "E"

I notice that many sites appears to have "customized" icons that show on the
"favorites" list. These icons keep reverting back to the generic "E" with
the yellow "swoosh" very rapidly (like just after visiting another site).

How do I maintain the display of these "customized" site icons in my
favorites list (IE7)?

I have IE6 so take this with a grain of salt:
Favicons are only temporary until cleared from your cache.
