IE shuts down on opening

I'm reading all these threads on explorer crashing on opening. I have the same problem at my home pc. I usually access explorer with the blue "e" icon. (sorry not sure which IE version that is).... since it was crashing, I decided to try to start it with the butterfly version of explorer. That method works fine, although I don't really care for that browser layout. I have never really used it on my pc, but it's the only way to browse

Just a little tidbit for anyone that is interested....
 
I'm having exactly the same experience. Have already
gone to Windows Update to ensure that I have the most
recent patch/fix for IE6. Suggestions anyone?

I believe that version is not IE, it is microsoft explorer,
a totally different browser. I am using Netscape now since
my IE6 does not work at all.
