IE settings

i am running xp home and my question is regarding
internet explorer: how can i set it up so that i can
download as many things as i want AT ONCE? right now, i
can only download 2 things at once MAXIMUM. if i try to
start another download when the two are not done, it just
waits until one is done before it starts to download the
third one so i have to keep attending to it rather than
being able to do whatever while it's downloading, which
is VERY annoying and time inefficient

also...is there a way to set it so that it ALWAYS
downloads to the desktop or a specific folder i specify?
i just hate having to click "OK" everytime it wants to
download to where i've ALREADY specified! THANKS...
