Everytime our users access the IE Search pane, IE hangs and the user has to shut it down, reopen, close the search pane, shut down again, then reopen IE. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot or how to fix?

Is your IE patched up to date?

Try SWI Forums for help. You'll need Spybot S&D and HijackThis (both
free). Start with this article:

Also, you should probably harden your browser. Run these browser
security checks, which will give you lots to think about.

Hi Jesslyn,

It is possible that you have third-party IE add-in installed or some IE
related configuration/data is corrupted. Therefore, IE falls into a loop to
query this kind of information. I suggest you try the following steps to
completely reset IE settings and then check if it hangs again on search.

Completely Reset Internet Explorer Settings for Security, Cookies and
Objects
--------------------------------------------------
Please quit Internet Explorer if it is running, and disconnect from the
Internet. Then double click "Internet Options" applet in "Control Panel",
we will get a dialog named "Internet options". We need to switch some tabs
in this dialog to resolve our issue.

A. Remove installed objects and delete Cookies
---------------------
Note: If you delete the cookies you will need to manually input the
password when you re-visit these Web sites. You can use the steps in the
More Information section below to back up the cookies.

1. In the "General" tab, click "Delete Files" and "Delete Cookies".
-NOTE: This action may delete all the cookies on your computer.
2. Click "Settings"->"View Objects". Right-click all the objects in the
popup window, and then choose Remove.
3. Click "Settings"->"View Files". Delete all the files in the popup
window.

B. Reset Security
------------------
1. Switch to the "Security" tab.
2. Select "Restricted Sites" from the "Select a Web content zone to
specify its security settings" icon select box.
3. Click "Sites" and the "Restricted Sites" dialog box will popup.
4. In the "Web sites" list box, highlight one entry and then click
"Remove" if there are one or some entries. Remove all these entries.
5. Click "OK" and switch back to the "Security" tab.
6. Click "Default Level" if it is not gray.
7. Step 2-6 in "Internet" in the icon select box.
-NOTE: Skip Step 3-5 for the "Internet" item since the "Sites" button
is gray.

C. Reset Cookies Security
------------------
1. Switch to the "Privacy" tab.
-NOTE: This is only available in Internet Explore 6.0, all the Cookies
security settings has been moved into this tab.
2. Click "Default".
3. Click "Advanced". In the popup "Advanced Privacy Settings" dialog box,
uncheck "Override automatic cookie handling" if it is checked.
4. Click "Edit" and the "Per Site Privacy Actions" dialog box will popup.
5. Click "Remove All" if it is not gray.
6. Click "OK".

D. Reset Link Option
--------------------
1. Switch to "Advanced" tab.
2. Click "Restore Defaults".
3. Clear "Enable third-party browser extensions".

More Information
============
To backup the cookies, please export all of the cookies:

1. Open Internet Explorer (IE) and click "Import and Export" on the file
menu.
2. Follow the instructions on the window to "Export cookies" to a new
folder.

Furthermore, if you still run into problems, please try boot Windows in
Safe Mode and then check if this issue persists. This will get rid of the
conflicts from the third-party applications. Sometimes, some third-party
application may affect IE's functionality and cause this kind of problem.

Please let me know if this solves this issue or if you need further
assistance. I look forward to hearing from you.
