Hey,

I'm working on my sister's computer and for some reason, when I try to
go to a website, I have to type in http:// before the name of the site. I
know that normally, you don't even have to type in the www. part, but to
actually have to type in the whole address, http://www., just gets extremely
annoying. If somebody could help me, I would really appretiate it. Thank
you!

Hi Larry :-)

Try the following and see if it helps:

IE will not connect to a web page without manually typing http//

http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers_8.htm#extension

or..

Repair corrupted or altered HTTP prefixes (spyware)
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/RepairDefaultPrefix.reg

If these steps do not resolve your problem, or you need help with the above,
please post back to this thread with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

Jan :)

Using Regedit, browse to the following registry key and make sure the noted
setting is correct:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AutoComplete]
"Append Completion"="yes"

also see the following values:

"Use AutoComplete"="yes"
"AutoSuggest"="no"

You may have to Restart the computer.

I did everything but I also still have the problem -- any other suggestions?

Hi Pete,

What do you mean by IE Search Bar? The address bar?

If you are looking for a search bar that supports both addresses (without
the need of typing http://) and search queries, give Quero Toolbar a try,
which is actually an address bar replacment [1]

If this sill does not solve your problem, I offer you to compile a special
version for you that will add "http://" automatically whenever you type in
an URL.

Best regards
