IE Screen Problem

With my new Acer Netbook, when I use IE, I often get an IE screen with solid
black fill and no "favorites" bar. Rebooting usually corrects the problem but
it is annoying especially since the Netbook has limited memory and is
relatively slow. Any suggestions other than get a more powerful laptop?
 
Whenever you ask a question about Internet Explorer, please tell us:

* what version of Internet Explorer you are using; and
* what version of Windows you are using (with the service pack number).

Do you have the same experience when you start Internet Explorer from
the 'no add-ons' icon?

If you have XP: Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools >
Internet Explorer (No Add-Ons)

If you have Vista or 7: Start > type Internet Explorer in the Start
Search box > click Internet Explorer (No Add-Ons)

Do you have the same experience after you have reset Internet Explorer
settings?

Problems with Internet Explorer can also be caused by by malicious
software ('malware') that you have unwittingly installed on your computer.

SW is XP Home version 2002, Serv Pack 3. IE is set up as "no add
ons".Netbook is also quite slow due to limited memory(1Meg/500k Ram) and
speed(1.6 Mhz). Adequate for my limited travel due to size, battery life,etc.
Slow when reading newspapers on line.
 
I think my problems are resolved but I am not sure fully why. I defragged
the"Acer C Drive" (as it came from the factory). Even though there was only
7% free space, not the minimum 15%recommended, I ran it over and over. ( My D
drive has 90% unused.) I defragged it several times. My speed has improved
significantly and my IE screen has not been a problem since. I am no
longerunhappy with the netbook. My issue is closed.

I generally like to get away from IE when I can: it's not that it's a
bad browser, in fact it works with more of the internet than anything
else, I just don't like the extent to which it is linked to the
operating system. You can always keep it there for the (rare) cases when
you encounter a website that won't work with whatever alternative you're
using.

FWIW, I'm using a netbook too, and have exactly that - Firefox as my
default browser, IE for if I should need it (which hasn't been for
months - I don't think ever, in fact, on this PC). What do you mean by
"1Meg/500k Ram"? (I have 1M, and can upgrade to 2M - I've got it, just
not got around to it, as I haven't found it irritatingly slow yet.)
