IE responding differently

I've noticed recently that IE will take a while to go to a site after I've
typed a URL in the address field. What's weird is that if I choose a site
from a bookmark, it responds as quickly as it always has. I've also noticed
that when I click on My Computer, I get the flashlight symbol as it takes a
while for it to pull up my drive list.
Any suggestions? I've run (updated) Ad-Aware and McAfee VS and it hasn't
shown anything unusual on my machine.

Try the following and see if it helps:

Clearing the TIF Cache -
Safely Delete the Temporary Internet Files

Disable all popup blockers, such as Goodle or Yahoo toolbars, and the
Windows firewall IF you have another firewall, such as Zone Alarm. If you
have Yahoo Companion, uninstall it.

Try reregistering the following files:

Start>Run>enter the following lines in the window one at a time, hitting
Enter after each one. You should see a message after entering each one that
it was registered.

regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll

fyi - have/had same problems on XP Pro. The flashlight problem was
caused by bugs in canon multipass f80 drivers after updating to XP SP2.
After downloading the latest usb canon drivers, the flashlight problem
went away. Also, need to get the latest updates to Office.

Nevertheless, that is a classic symptom of spyware e.g. search bar
hijacker. Try to take careful note of what is happening in the Status bar
for immediate clues. More complete diagnostics could depend on your
OS which you have not disclosed. However, getting a trace of DNS
activity may be necessary to understand your symptom. If you have
a firewall in place you may find that it can provide such diagnostics.

Thanks for the feedback. I ended up removing the printer software for my new
HP Printer (Photosmart 2610) and this seems to have fixed the problem. I'm
going to reinstall and see if it happens again.
