Hi.

I've read most of the previous messages and spotted a couple having a
problem with not being able to maximise the ie window...

I have the opposite problem. I go to a site and the window auto-maximises.
It's not asked if I want it to maximise, just does it... I don't want ie
maximised at any time... how do I prevent this happening?.

Sam.

Probably not if it's hard coded on the page.
Give us an example (url) will check it out.

I've read most of the previous messages and spotted a couple having a
I was having a problem with new windows maximizing automatically and
totally covering the parent window. These days it seems to happen
every time after I visit the windowsupdate website. Here's the answer
provided by MVP Sandi Hardmeier - the registry fix worked but not the
initial suggestion. (I've since exported the two HKCU keys so I can
install their .reg files as required.)

From Sandi:
Remove any 'Auto-hide' option for the taskbar and then maximise the
problem window. While the window is maximised, increase the height of
the taskbar from one row to two. Allow the maximised window to reset
itself to fit into the new area allowed by the taller taskbar. Now
return the taskbar to its normal single row. This is to try to make
Windows re-calculate the window size and boundaries.

If no joy, run regedit and remove these registry key values which are
most likely corrupted:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\window_placement

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\internetexplorer\Desktop\Explorer\desktop\oldWorkAreas\OldWorkAreaRects

Then reboot.

Now IE windows should minimise properly.
