I read in the requirements for Microsoft Anti-Spyware that Internet Explorer
is required. This doesn't make any sense to me as I never ever use Internet
Explorer. Why can't I download and/or use the AntiSpyware program with
another browser such as Mozilla Firefox?

You can in fact do what you propose--a great many users here are doing it.

http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/requirements.mspx

does, in fact mention IE6. I haven't explored what happens if IE6 is not
installed on a given Windows 2000 machine, but there's no requirement that
you use IE6 for browsing, nor that you use it for downloading the
program--I've a number of FireFox users happily using Microsoft Antispyware.

There are a class of app-specific hooks in the product which work with IE,
and don't with Firefox, so you are slightly less protected--but they are by
no means the major functionality of the program.
