IE refuses to start

Hi Johan :-)

You neglect to tell us which version of Windows you are using, thus, I will
haev to make a guess. Try the following and see if it helps:

IE does not open automatically

Courtesy of Ramesh -

1. Close all instances of Internet Explorer
2. Click Start/Run and type CONTROL INETCPL.CPL
3. Click the Programs tab, and click "Reset Web Settings" button
4. Select "Yes" when prompted, and click OK to close the dialog.

This usually fixes the corrupt IE related file associations. If not, you may
want to execute these commands from Start>Run:

regsvr32 /i shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 /i urlmon.dll

Hope this helps.

IE Version 6 running on XP Home sp1. (it was sp2 but I "repaired the OS")
This is a bigger problem then IE not working. The taskbar doesn't work,
start button is missing. I tried to login in safemode as an admin and it
still doesn't work. I ran every spyware, adware, antivirus program that is
possible. Removed quite a bit of files but it still does not come back.

I even tried running explorer.exe from the task manager but all that happens
is you see the start bar/taskbar flash and disappear. I can still see my
files and I can still execute programs but I have to do it from task manager
or from the command prompt (but you can't get a command prompt unless you go
to task manager first).

Extremely frustrated. I'm starting to backup my harddrive onto cd's and
about to enact the scorch earth policy, reformat reinstall all programs.

Hi Johan :-)

It does appear pretty severe. It sounds like some form of malware. In view
of the severity of the circumstances, you may have the better idea,
although, I don't like to recommend such action unless it is the last
resort. However, there are times when trying to find, remove and repair
malware damage is far more time consuming than just a clean sweep and
reinstall.

Perhaps someone else here will have a better suggestion for you, one that
hopefully, will save you from having to do the wipe.

iexplorer.exe is a spyware program.
iexplore.exe is Internet Explorer.
Which are you trying to start?
Do you even have iexplorer.exe?
