I used to notice that every time I opened a browser window I'd spawn a new
iexplore.exe process. Recently something changed (don't know what) and now
opening Internet Explorer doesn't start any processes. Instead I can see the
Windows Explorer process, explorer.exe increases in memory usage.
If I use Task Manager to end the explorer.exe process (which hides the
desktop) I can manually "run" a new 'iexplore.exe' task, which will
successfully create a process, or even multiple if I keep doing it. If I were
to then restart the 'explore.exe' task to regain my desktop, from that point
on any new browser windows is enveloped in that explore.exe process.
The problem with this is my job requires logging into an application with 2
different users. Because the processes for the browsers aren't distinct, the
last browser window used becomes a duuplicate of the first.
Im running Windows XP Professional, IE 6.0.2900.2180 SP2, on a Thinkpad
