I recently installed some software to eliminate spyware
so as to stop bombarding me with pop-ups. Since then,
every time I try to launch IE I get a message that
reads "Can't Find Data for 'Ad'". The browser then shuts
down - every time. I'm assuming I wiped out a file that
the browser was trying to find - but I'm not sure.

The only way I could get a new browser launched was to
restore my system to a previous date (before the spyware
killer software was loaded).

I'm running IE 6 and XP. Can anyone help? What does that
message mean?

I had the same problem and through research discovered
that it is caused by the Delphi error. What you will need
to do is go into safe mode and go to the control panel/
add and remove programs. There you will need to delete
the program CPR. Then do a search for and delete the file
cpr.dll. After that reboot in normal mode and everything
should work as normal.

Mark,
1) error message: "failed to get data for ad"
2) error message: from iexplore that "is not a valid date"

This problem appears to be from the following:
Note: AdRoar adware was bundled with other files you downloaded (Grokster)

all instances, and the CLSID.

Go to: http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/
Download "Hijack This!" [freeware] or download direct (below):
http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip

Unzip, double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".

With IE closed:

Rescan with HijackThis: Select: the above "02" entry
Remove the above entry by checking the box to the left and clicking 'fixed
checked'
