i found this plugin for the maxthon (aka myie2) browser and i'd like to use
it on microsoft internet explorer (ie). any help? it's at:
http://res.maxthon.com/ItemList.aspx?t=2#
or http://res.maxthon.com/ItemList.aspx?i=497

optionally, it allows you to:
enable right click
remove floating/banner ads
hyperlink tracking changes (remove link trackers)
blinking/moving text styles
stop flash ads

documentation (in french) is here:
http://www.maxthon-fr.com/forum/inde...er&f=29&t=3080

it shows the option box for enabling/disabling features, so you might get
some idea even without french. or with yahoo or babel translation

it looks to be just scripts. will the same scripts work in ie? (it says
maxthon is based on ie,whatever that means) how does one install a plugin
into ie? maybe it's simple? the author is named as abc@home, which gives me
no clue how to contact him/her.

thanks in advance for any help!

Hi Adam,
The same functionality is available in many firewall products(commercial and
freeware - try ZoneAlarm). Although that extension is singular it has many
functions and has a drop-down menu and settings dialog.. a big time effort
to create in IE.
The hosts file is the easiest way to block unwanted web advertising.
Regards.

thanks, rob, for your quick answer.

i have a firewall that lacks this functionality, and i believe zonealarm
does, too, but i'll check, thanks. :) i hear rob saying this would be
difficult to implement for ie...it's not some simple adapter as i'd hoped.
that's a bummer. :) it seems that the scripts to do all that's necessary
are present...i just don't know if they'll work with ie (instead of maxthon)?
i don't suppose anyone else knows ie extensions that will do some of these
things?

yes, i'm aware of the hosts file approach, use that distributed by mvps.org,
and homer and hostXpert. it's effective, but lacks the functionality i'm
seeking here. i also use similarly zonedout to load various websites into
restricted zone for safety, and that's useful, but not what i'm seeking here.

is there any other way to re-enable right-click? to disable flash ads
playing? i guess i could remove the flash extension, but sometimes there are
flashes i want to see, which this plugin handles well. what about
suppressing annoying text that flashes, etc? and collapsing tracking links
down to direct link? i don't think this plugin does it, but would also be
useful to turn
off the response to referrer links (with option to turn it on where needed).

stepping into the unknown, i found the following msdn article on adding to
the tools menu:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/workshop/browser/ext/tutorials/button.asp
and the following for adding plugins to the toolbar. since the scripts are
already available, i think
i could setup these reg entries. the question is: will the scripts run on
ie or are they specific to
maxthon? they use some data structures of ie (of course) to do their deeds,
and perhaps those
structures are different in maxthon? or perhaps they're the same 'cause
maxthon is "based on ie."
maybe i'll just try it, but it's unknown territory to me and i doubt i'll
succeed, esp since rob says
it's hard.

any more help?

FYI FiddlerTool is supposed to have some kind of scripting capability.
Perhaps these scripts could be adapted more easily for use with it?

At least this feature seems to be somewhat documented
and there is a forum where you could look for more help with it.
