I have just upgraded the motherboard in my computer to ASUS A7N8X-VM/400.
It uses an on-board NVIDIA nForce networking adapter. My computer and one
other (both running Windows XP Professional SP2) are connected to a router
which in turn is connected to a cable modem.
Since I have installed the motherboard, every time Internet Explorer runs
it pauses for several seconds and displays the note: "detecting proxy
settings..." IE did not exhibit this annoying behavior when running with
the earlier motherboard. This new problem seems to lie with IE, since two
other standalone applications (viz. WS_FTP and Eudora 5.2) both connect to
the Internet instantly.
Is there some parameter that needs tweaking, e.g. in Device Manager or in
Internet options, to make IE behave as it has always formerly done?
