IE disregards my default home page settings and continually opens with
Microsoft Update. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Hi Kram,
This is normal when Windows Updates have been set to Automatic. Download and
install the updates and/or change your Windows Update settings on the
Microsoft Update Homepage.

Regards.

Hi Kram,

How strange. I have not experienced that myself. You could try -

Checking your homepage settings - not set to the Windows Update site

Disable "Automatically check for Internet Explorer updates" on the Advanced
tab of Internet Options.

Check your Quicklaunch shortcut to Internet Explorer and make sure that it
is not using the Windows Update site as the start page for IE. (Test by
typing Iexplore.exe in the Run dialog)

Also, I don't suppose that you have opened one of those emails we
occasionally receive perporting to be from Microsoft, asking to install
attached updates. These are malware. Never install updates from email
updates. MS never does this.

Let us know how you go.

Regards.

Rob,
Checked my default home page setting and it iswhat I want it to be, not
Update. Also checked iexplore.exe and IE opened with the Microsoft Update
page. Is this the problem? If so, how do I change?

Checked my registry settings and changed anything that had to do with "home"
or "start" for IE from Microsoft to my desired home page (under
MS-->IE-->Main; I have edited my registry before). So far, that didn't work.

And, no, I never received any email asking me to update Windows.

I will continue testing, but do you have any more suggestions?

Thanks,
kram
