IE opens 71 windows

When I click on an e-mail address on a web page(in order to contact the web
page owner) I expected to go directly to Windows Mail But instead a total of
71 Internet Explorer Pages open up. Any Ideas. This has happened on several
sites now.
 
Hi safetyman,

Click Start, select Default Programs
Click Set program access and computer defaults
Click Custom, and select your mail client (for example, Windows Mail)
Click OK

If that does not help, this might be a Permissions problem. See:

Where did you get the steps for "Method 1" from, brink?
