IE not Resolving DNS?

Hello,

I came into the office today and my browser can no longer
connect to internal servers (http://myserver). If I go to
the IP address it works. If I ping the server name, that
works. If I remote desktop using the server name, it
works.

I added the servername to my local "hosts" file with no
luck either.

So... I do not 'think' this is a DNS/WINS issue, but
something having to do with IE settings.

FYI: I did just recently uninstall McAfee VirusScan this
weekend due to some problems it caused, but I don't know
if this is related or not. Also, I tried turning the auto-
detect proxy settings on and off (there is no proxy here).

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

-Bill

What happens if you temporarily turn McAfee off?

Sorry about the last empty post.

Okay... I reset the configuration settings of the browser
and everything seems to be okay, but after awhile I have
the same problem and have to reset again.

Very strange. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

I don't think that that is a very convincing argument.
For example, what does netstat -r show you?
Unfortunately, this newsgroup may not be the best place
to having your routing table interpreted for you.

FWIW "persistent static route" are keywords which I would
use to try to find more documentation on a workaround for
the issue I'm thinking of.

Your words "came into the office" bring some other ideas to mind too.
Have you checked with your network administrator? Asked that individual
"What changed?" (e.g. DHCP change). Don't waste your company's
time and money trying to do somebody else's job.

Good luck

What OS are you on? We use 2000 and XP in our office. We
have some things we run through IE that run from our
internal servers. We too run into the issue of connecting.
The old "Page Cannot be found" error. Try
ipconfig /release, then ipconfig /flushdns, then
ipconfig /renew on the work station(s) with the issue.

It helps,
Mark
