IE not loading first try

Recently, within the past 2 months, IE is not loading a page on the first
try. When I enter a web page in the address line, the progress bar just sits
there, and the little computers in the bottom right stay dark (indicating no
connecting, I presume). After a couple of minutes, I get a page cannot be
displayed error (including trying to access this post). After the error
message, if I highlight the address line and hit enter, the page loads. I
have no trouble loading email or game sites, and pinging seems to work.
Help?? This is driving me NUTS!!! Even the little help on display names below
had to be entered twice.

Same thing happens to me. I try what you did but it dosen't work for me.
Also cannot open email either.
What I do is disconnect (I have dial-up) and then reconnect. Everything
works fine then. My opinion is, it has something to do with that particular
connection.

I'm using a wireless connection. Everything works but IE, and that works when
I reclick on the address page. I've been through the XP help suggestions,
removing winsocks, etc., and nothing has helped yet. Even tried several virus
programs. It took me twice to open this window.

It's more likely spyware than a virus which is causing your symptom.
See others' tips about dealing with it and malware in general.

Good luck

We have a simpar problem - IE can't connect to a site ( ever) locks up or
stays in the background and is only seen when the system is in the process of
a shut down. Other Microft applications have the same behavior. Forefox, and
Opera work like a charm, but Netscape has a similar problem. Windows Defender
and Norton AV claim all is well. This is a serious problem for Microsoft and
I would like to know how to get this fixed and I WON'T pay for support for
shoddy software!
