IE maximized but not?

DC Gringo

My WinXP IE 6 with all patches and service packs is acting strange. When I
maximize the window, it shrinks to about an inch high and docks itself to
the bottom of the screen. I can restore and manually resize the window, but
it's still very annoying. Any advice? Restart of browser or whole machine
didn't work.

Hi DC :)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Windows are too small:

Courtesy of Frank Saunders -

Windows remembers the size of the last Normal IE window closed.
Open a link.
Don't use the maximize button.
Stretch the edges/corners so that the window fills the screen.
Close all other IE windows.
Close the stretched window.

*Symptom: IE opens a maximized window shifted down and to the right.*

Remove any 'Auto-hide' option for the taskbar and while the window is
maximized, resize the taskbar then return it to the desired size. This is to
try to make Windows re-calculate the window size and boundaries.

If no joy, run regedit and remove these registry key values:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\window_placement

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Desktop\OldWorkAreas\OldWorkAreaRects

Then reboot.

If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

Yes, that's all well and good, but when you do it this way and then want to
minimise the screen it doesn't get small.

It would truly make it easier for me to respond to your reply if you stated
which of the suggestions I provided you are referring to. :)

Thank you.

Restart of browser or whole machine didn't work.

While the [small] maximized window is the only open window, right click the
taskbar and select Tile windows. You may have to do this both vertically
and horizontally.
