IE loses connection after 6-10 websites

When I first start my computer I am able to visit 6-10
websites, then the Internet cannot find sites anymore and
I get the "Page cannot be displayed" message. Each time I
type in another website, IE "thinks" about it and tries to
find it but cannot. When I restart the computer I am able
to visit 6-10 sites again.

Closing the IE browser window only does not solve the
problem. I have updated Windows, used Spybot to find and
delete Spyware, scanned for viruses, and still have not
solved the problem. Tech support through my University
cannot figure it out either. I'm desperate!

Greetings from Finland!

I had that same problem. Our ISP had blocked ports 3127-3198 in their
router because of that Mydoom-virus. After boot Windows XP starts to
use ports from ~3000 and when that port number grows to 3127,
connection hangs at SYN_SENT state. Try to type "netstat" at command
prompt so you can see if this is the problem. I think you must ask
your ISP if they have blocked those ports in their routers or
firewalls.

There is also a temporary fix. Press refresh-button of your browser so
many times that those port numbers 3127-3198 are passed. I got my
connection working when Windows started to use ports from 3199. Now
the connection is working all the time, because our ISP removed those
port blocking rules.

(Hopefully you understand my bad english, it's not my native language)

Thanks for the advice, your english was fine:) However,
that is not my problem because my roommate and I share our
DSL port through a router, and she is not having this
problem. I wish it was that simple though, and thanks
again for offering advice!
