IE Launches Slowly

When I double click the IE Desktop Icon or single click the toolbar IE Icon,
IE takes 10 seconds or so to launch all of a sudden and it always launched
pretty much immediatley. I did a full spyware scan with Spysweeper (latest
liscened version) and all it found were cookies, I did a virus scan with
Mcaffee )lisenced version, and it found nothing. The computer is running
fine except that this just takes way too long compared to a week ago. Any
ideas?

Thanks

If you updated Java recently, the new version is causing that problem

Yes, I did just update Java for some other program that needed it. What can
I do to solve the slow launch???

Thanks,

Dan

In IE tools, manage addons, there is a BHO named ssvt.dll or something
similar. I disabled it and IE loaded fast again, but, some java game
sites would not work. So I dl'd Java version 5.0 update 5 instead of 6
and all is fine again.
BTW, I tried 6 again and ran into the same problem so I went back to
5 again.

Do you mean change it, then change it again back to what you want?

Are you running SpySweeper? In version 4.5.5, I found I had to turn off
ActiveX Shield. Apparently it conflicts with how IE6 deals with ActiveX
issues. This fixed the slow opening problem.

I am having the same problem - only since installing WinXP updates yesterday.
Also, get slow response after letting IE sit for a while - and I have a
cable modem connection so it can't be disconnecting. Any suggestions would
be greatly appreciated!

Thanks all, I just removed version 6 of Java and reinstalled Version 5.0
without the add-on and it works fine now. Yes, I do have Spysweeper, but
does turning off the Active X shield disable a funtionality of Spysweeper
that is critical??? I have solved the problem with Java 5.0, I don't want to
mess with it at this point, but I wonder if changing the Spysweeper settings
will cause a security issue?

Thanks,
Dan
