IE launches page in new window, then closes

Since the last security patch, it seems like whenever an anchor references a link and uses the target attribute to open a new browser instance, the old instance closes immediately after the new window opens.

Can't work that way. Anyone else see this? I've been looking for Internet options / Security options to keep this from happening, but don't see anything likely in the available choices.

No spyware, no adware--I checked. ;)
 
Same experience - don't know any solution.
