IE launches itself

When I come back to my pc after being away for a while, I find Internet
Explorer has launced itself. I've run adware and spybot s&d to remove
unwanted programs. McAfee virus scan runs a full scan twice a week. I
suspect this is some unwanted spyware, but have yet to find what is causing
this spcific problem. I have bumped up firewall to tight security, but it's
still happening on a regular basis. Why is IE launcing itself? Can I stop
it?

run your scans in safe mode make sure all definitions are up to date. Is IE
opening up on a weird page?
Check the event viewer. Go to Start run type in eventvwr see what messages
are there

If you are not connected to the internet I unplug your network cable or
phone line what happens?

IE homepage is set to "blank" that is what is open when I return to my pc.

Event viewer is loaded with entries from a source called "ESENT"

sounds like automatic updates are turned on but it is having problems
connecting Have you run windows update recently with no problems?

Windows updates have been running with no problem. I checked and automactic
updates are not turned on.
