Hi there,

somehow my IE got completely shot down and all files in the
"program files\internet explorer"-folder are deleted. I
cannot uninstall anything (has there ever been an option to
uninstall IE I wonder) but I also cannot re-install IE
(which I would like to do) because every time I start the
installation file it tells me "... is already installed on
your machine..." and will not continue.
Amazingly, when I click on a link outside the internet
(e.g. in documents or IRC) it opens up IE and the
taskmanager shows me a running IEXPLORE.EXE process.
However, searching for that file, I get "File does not
exist on your machine."

So I kinda got an IE-ghost here.

Any suggestions?
Thx a lot!

thanks a lot, it's working again :)

Try Start>Run and type in "sfc /scannow" (no quotes and
there is a space between "sfc" and "/scannow"). This
checks and repairs protected windows programs (IE among
them). See MS Knowledge Base article 318378 "How to
Reinstall or Repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express
in Windows XP" for details on the Internet Explorer repair
function.
