IE Issues after installing updates

I recently installed the March 2006 update of the Malicious Software Removal
tool and the latest edition of Windows Defender Beta 2 and suddenly web sites
refuse to work properly. For example MSNBC.com doesn't download any images.
Slashdot.com doesn't download the advertisement bar along the right hand side
of their site. I believe one of these tools has gone a little too far in
securing my system. BTW I've done this to the four machines in my house and
all of them are experiencing the same problems.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Windows Defender Version: 1.1.1051.0
Engine Version: 1.1.1186.0
Signature Version: 1.14.1325.6

Did you download any other updates? I would rule out the Malicious Software
removal tool completely--it runs and goes away, and it shouldn't have any
visible side effects.

I think Windows Defender is also an unlikely culpret, but strange effects do
happen. You could go to Tools general settings, and scroll all the way to
the bottom, and deselse "Use Windows Defender" and see if that makes a
difference--I suspect it will not.

Could that latest "non-critical" security update for IE be causing that? It
might also be the newest update for Macromedia Flash player-the new one has
issues, and the old one is a security risk. Either old or new, you can have a
problem with it.

That IE update was exactly what I had in mind--but I don't know what side
effects it might have--I haven't tested it yet.

I have seen a Microsoft Blog post stating that this update will be pushed in
April 11th's Security update package. So I guess it is time for us all to
test it now.....

I already installed it, and I find myself having to "click here" to active
controls on web pages more frequently. The first time I noticed it was when I
was updating my Macromedia shockwave and flash players.

Well you'd never suspect your own ISP but it turns out that my ISP may be to
blame. When I arrived home this evening I decided to surf from my servers
and they exhibited the same problem and they don't have Defender installed.
So I called my ISP and was informed that another customer had called and
complained of a similar experience. They are looking into a possible DNS
issue.

Hopefully this is it.

That's not impossible---often the pictures are hosted on a different server
and you can have odd effect like this.
MTU issues are the other thing I'd think of, perhaps.
