Using W2K with all updates.
Browser Ver: 6.02800 ....

My IE Browser seems to have changed. I posted this under the IE support
group and got no response.
I do my searches by using a split screen (pressing the Search button on the
browser). It use to be that I could search on a topic with more options.
If the results of the search was not what I wanted, I could press the "Next"
button and switch Search Engines. I no longer have this option and I don't
know why.

The only option I have is MSN Search. One option, One "Edit Box" to enter
my search item.

Thanks

have you tried

IE
Tools
Internet Options
Programs tab
click Reset Web Settings button
OK

Yes but it had no effect. I think it happened when the Google bar was
accidentally installed. However, I removed the Google bar and it did not
help.

Try reinstalling Internet Explorer to refresh the settings

I have IE 6.0 on disk, but I thought that it would detect a higher version
and not install.
Will this be an issue?

You can use the regedit described in this article to reinstall IE. I know
the article says for Windows XP, but I used it successfully on Windows 2000.
Seems like after setting "IsInstalled" to 0, and after restart then IE/OE
reverted back to IE5.0 Then you can just run the setup again for IE6

Which group did you post in? There's been a lot of discussion of this
issue in microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6.browser. When I last
looked there, there was no definitive resolution, but it appears that the
situation was created by Microsoft, intentionally.

Yes I published at microsoft.public.window.inetexpolorer.ie6.browser
It went over a week with no responses. I removed my "watch" on this thread.
I believe I even deleted the message (from my local computer). Not sure if
that removes it from the server... don't think so. But I did it anyway.

I would like to re-download the latest IE 6. I'm looking but can't figure
it out.
Microsoft has so many downloads available that I can't make sense out of it.
It would be nice to have a link that simply states ... latest version (all
sp & latest patches included).

Any help here?

There really should be a reg file available that I can just click on to
restore my registries.
Wouldn't that be a route to try?

I have done this. The browser appears to work better now.
I've been doing updates then noticed that KB823353 is always showing up as
an update. It says that it was done successfully but with in a few
minutes... it shows it as an update again.

How can I resolve this?

Ask them here about that one. public.windowsupdate

There have been a lot of posts recently on the subject, an assortment of
experiements reported, and a few partially successful repairs that failed
again after a short period. There's been no resolution and the psoting
volume has dropped off.

It appears that the problem was caused by something Microsoft has done,
but there's been no acknowledgement of that, nor any substantive response
at all. The consensus seems to be that MS broke it, and there's nothing
you can do about it. I'm guessing that it will work perfectly well in IE7
eventually. All you have to do is to buy a Windows version it will run
on.

I believe my issue has been resolved. I believe it has to do with the order
that updates are done. I ended up deleting my updates and doing it all over
again. I updated the KB823353 first, rebooted, then installed the rest of
the updates. It seems to have worked this time.

My issues have been resolved.
Thanks

Hi JCO,

I think you can check following points:

1. Go to Controll Panel -> Add or Remove Programs and click "Show Updates"
2. Check if KB823353 was installed.
3. If KB823353 was installed,
4. Go to a computer without problems
5. Copy Inetres.dll, Msident.dll, Msoeacct.dll, Msoert2.dll to
C:\Windows\System32, replace old files(in problematic computer).
6.Click Start->Run, type regsvr32 inetcomm.dll, and click Ok. And then
repeat the command to register Msident.dll and Msoeacct.dll.
7.Copy Wab32.dll to C:\Programs Files\Common Files\System, replace old file.
8.Double Click Internet_settings.reg and Subkey.reg
9.Restart your computer; see if the problem can be solved.

If the problem still occurs, please let me know.

Hi JCO,

I think you can check following points:

1. Go to Controll Panel -> Add or Remove Programs and click "Show Updates"
2. Check if KB823353 was installed.
3. If KB823353 was installed,
4. Go to a computer without problems

I believe my issue has been resolved. I believe it has to do with the
order
that updates are done. I ended up deleting my updates and doing it all
over
again. I updated the KB823353 first, rebooted, then installed the rest
of
the updates. It seems to have worked this time.

My issues have been resolved.
Thanks

There have been a lot of posts recently on the subject, an assortment
of
experiements reported, and a few partially successful repairs that
failed
again after a short period. There's been no resolution and the
psoting
volume has dropped off.

It appears that the problem was caused by something Microsoft has
done,
but there's been no acknowledgement of that, nor any substantive
response
at all. The consensus seems to be that MS broke it, and there's
nothing
you can do about it. I'm guessing that it will work perfectly well
in
IE7
eventually. All you have to do is to buy a Windows version it will
run
on.

Yes I published at microsoft.public.window.inetexpolorer.ie6.browser
It went over a week with no responses. I removed my "watch" on this
thread.
I believe I even deleted the message (from my local computer). Not
sure
if
that removes it from the server... don't think so. But I did it
anyway.

Which group did you post in? There's been a lot of discussion of
this
issue in microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6.browser. When
I
last
looked there, there was no definitive resolution, but it appears
that
the
situation was created by Microsoft, intentionally.

Using W2K with all updates.
Browser Ver: 6.02800 ....

My IE Browser seems to have changed. I posted this under
the
IE
support
group and got no response.
I do my searches by using a split screen (pressing the Search
button
on
the
browser). It use to be that I could search on a topic with more
options.
If the results of the search was not what I wanted, I could
press
the
"Next"
button and switch Search Engines. I no longer have this option
and
I
don't
know why.

The only option I have is MSN Search. One option, One "Edit
Box"
to
enter
my search item.

Thanks
